Key takeaways

  • Wine-R publishes two cellar-size conditions for the WR2500: up to 700 ft³ (19.8 m³) with glass walls and up to 900 ft³ (25.5 m³) fully enclosed, both at R-20 insulation with double-pane sealed glass.
  • The WR2500 cutout is 15 5/8 in x 9 1/4 in (397 x 235 mm), for walls 5.5 to 14 in (140 to 355 mm) thick.
  • Manufacturers rate cellar size against different envelopes and condenser intake temperatures, so cubic-foot figures are not directly comparable across brands.
  • The WR2500 requires a condensate drain (3/8 in ID, continuous downward slope) and a dedicated 115V/60Hz/15A circuit. Drain and circuit requirements for other units are listed as published.
  • A matching opening is not an approved order. Capacity, drain, and dedicated circuit are validated through pre-validation before a WR2500 ships.

Who this guide is for

Who this guide is for

Someone choosing a through-the-wall unit and reading dealer catalogs that sit WR2500 next to CellarPro, WhisperKOOL, Wine Guardian, Breezaire, or CellarCool. Use the table to check capacity with envelope, opening, sound, and warranty against the published source.

Who this guide is not for

Split or ducted systems, cabinet coolers, and new cellars that have not picked a format yet. Start with the types page and the BTU calculator. This table does not confirm that a unit fits an existing opening.

How we compare

Figures come from manufacturer product pages and spec sheets only, never from reseller listings. Each figure carries the condition the manufacturer states (temperature, envelope). "Not published" means the manufacturer does not state that figure on the cited source. Figures were retrieved on September 1, 2026 and are re-verified every 90 days; the date is updated at each pass. If you are a manufacturer or a reader and a figure is out of date, write to info@wine-r.com. We verify against the source and update.

Terms used in this table

BTU/h
British thermal units per hour, the rate at which a unit removes heat. 1,000 BTU/h is approximately 293 W.
Nominal capacity
The manufacturer's rated figure under its own stated test conditions.
Total vs. sensible BTU
Total includes moisture removal; sensible is temperature-only cooling. Manufacturers may publish one or both.
Condenser intake temperature
The warm-side air temperature at which the rating applies (for example 75°F or 85°F). A higher intake temperature lowers usable capacity.
Envelope
The cellar's insulation, vapor barrier, door seal, and glass. Every rating assumes a specific envelope.
Cutout
The rough wall opening measured at the framing, not the trim.

Why does capacity need an envelope?

BTU and cubic feet are only true under the conditions the manufacturer states: insulation, glass, and condenser intake temperature. We print those conditions in the cell.

Are the openings interchangeable?

WR2500 cutout is 15 5/8 in by 9 1/4 in. Several others use a taller, 14.25 in-wide face that needs a different opening. Measure the framing, not the trim.

What does each warranty cover?

Wine-R is 2-year parts. Others publish parts-and-labor or a 5-year system term. The table reports each manufacturer's published warranty term as stated.

Figures retrieved September 1, 2026. Capacity is only as good as the envelope the manufacturer states. An opening match is not an approved order.

What the numbers do not settle

Cubic feet are not interchangeable

Capacity numbers are not interchangeable. CellarPro rates the 1800 series at 250 to 400 ft³ on its spec sheet, under its stated envelope. The WR2500 is specified for larger sealed residential cellars when the envelope holds. WhisperKOOL SC PRO 3000 and CellarCool CX3300 publish 650 ft³ against a sealed, insulated room and an 85F condenser intake. Wine Guardian TTW02B Classic publishes 2,650 BTU/h at 75F and does not give a cubic-foot rating on the product page.

Size the room, then the opening

The table cannot tell you if a unit is enough for your cellar. Run the BTU calculator for the room: insulation, glass, and ambient set the load. If you already have an opening, use the Compatibility check before you assume a cutout works. Opening match is not an order. A unit that fits the hole can still be the wrong capacity.

Questions

Why these models and not every SKU in the catalog?

These are self-contained through-the-wall units a residential shopper would put on a shortlist next to the WR2500. Splits, ducted systems, ceiling units, and low-profile Houdini-style units are a different install. Those belong on the types page, not this table.

Why do the cubic-foot numbers disagree?

Each manufacturer rates cellar size against its own envelope. Wine-R publishes 700 ft³ with glass or 900 ft³ enclosed, at R-20 with sealed double-pane glass. CellarPro 1800XTS-HE numbers assume no glass, R-19, and 85F ambient. WhisperKOOL and CellarCool publish cubic feet for a sealed, insulated room and a 85F condenser intake. A number without that envelope is not comparable.

Does a matching opening mean the unit will work?

No. Opening compatibility is one part of the picture. Capacity, a condensate drain, and a dedicated circuit still have to be right. Wine-R confirms fit against declared measurements and photos before a WR2500 ships.

Why is Wine-R warranty listed as parts only?

The table reports each manufacturer's published warranty term as stated. Wine-R's warranty is parts only.

Which through-the-wall unit is the quietest?

Only some manufacturers publish a sound figure: CellarPro lists 47 dBA for the 1800XT-HE and 54 dBA for the 1800XTS-HE on its product pages, Wine Guardian lists 58.0 dBA for the TTW02B Classic, Breezaire lists 60 dB-A (EST) for the WKL 3000, and CellarCool lists 63 dBA evaporator / 63 dBA condenser for the CX3300. Wine-R and WhisperKOOL do not publish a dBA figure. Published figures are measured under each manufacturer's own conditions and are not directly comparable.

Which unit has the longest published warranty?

As published by each manufacturer: CellarPro states 5 years on the entire system, WhisperKOOL states 2 years on the product and 5 years on the compressor, Wine-R states 2 years on parts, Wine Guardian does not state a standard term on the product page, Breezaire states 5 years on parts and 1 year factory labor, and CellarCool states 2-year parts and labor and 5-year compressor. Each term is defined by its own manufacturer's conditions.

Is Wine-R affiliated with these brands?

No. Product names are used for identification only. Trademarks belong to their owners.

Liability and warranty considerations

The WR2500 is sold under Wine-R’s Terms of Sale and Limited Warranty. Wine-R’s warranty covers unit parts for two years from the original purchase date.

Warranty coverage is voided by, among other conditions:

  • Damage from improper installation, poor insulation, or oversized or unsealed rooms
  • Use of extension cords, switch-controlled outlets, or non-dedicated circuits
  • Use of single-pane or non-insulated glass in the cellar envelope
  • Installation through an exterior wall, into a sealed cavity, or into an unventilated cabinet
  • Service performed by anyone other than Wine-R or a Wine-R authorized technician
  • Damage from drainage installation, blockage, overflow, or any drainage failure

Pre-validation by Wine-R confirms unit fitment against declared measurements only. The owner or installer is responsible for envelope construction, wall structural assessment, electrical compliance, drainage routing, and ongoing operating conditions. Wine-R does not warrant against water damage, mold, finish degradation, or property loss caused by installation, drainage configuration, site conditions, or operating environment.

About this information

This guide is built and reviewed by the Wine-R engineering team. Wine-R specializes in through-the-wall wine cellar cooling and has supported replacements that reuse an existing opening across North America. Specifications follow the WR2500 manufacturer documentation and each named manufacturer's published product page or spec sheet.

This content is general information for owners evaluating wine cellar cooling options. It is not a diagnosis of any specific unit and not a recommendation to repair or replace any product. Wine-R is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by any other manufacturer referenced on this page. All third-party product names and trademarks are the property of their respective owners and are used for identification and compatibility reference only. Third-party specifications come from publicly available manufacturer information and may change without notice. Compatibility with an existing opening does not by itself confirm suitability: cooling capacity must be validated against the cellar's size and construction, and the WR2500 requires a condensate drain line and a dedicated 115V/60Hz/15A circuit. Fit and sizing are confirmed through Wine-R's pre-validation process before any unit ships.
