Replacement opening

Will it work in your existing opening?

Three measurements on the cutout, then three photos. You get an instant read against the standard 15 5/8 in by 9 1/4 in opening. Wine-R confirms fit before a unit ships. No obligation.

Who this check is for

Owners replacing a through-the-wall unit in an existing above-door opening: KoolR Magnum, KoolR Plus / Koolspace, or another self-contained unit in that size class. If you do not know the model, the opening measurements still decide.

Who this check is not for

KoolR Nuvo and other cabinet units, ducted or split systems, and new cellars that do not yet have an opening. Those are a different install. Wine-R is not affiliated with KoolR. The BTU calculator covers room sizing for a new build.

Before you start

How to measure the opening

Measure at the framing, not the trim. A tape on the decorative surround will read small.

  1. 1

    Width and height

Measure the rough opening at the framing. Record width, then height, to the nearest 1/8 in. The WR2500 cutout is 15 5/8 in by 9 1/4 in.

  2. 2

    Wall thickness

Measure from the finished cellar-side surface to the finished warm-side surface. The specified range is 5.5 in to 14 in.

  3. 3

    Three photos

Cellar-side face of the existing unit, warm-side vent, and the electrical outlet. Those photos are what the review uses after the numbers.

Compatibility check FAQ

What does the Compatibility check cover?

It compares your existing wall opening and wall thickness to the WR2500 cutout of 15 5/8 in by 9 1/4 in, and the 5.5 in to 14 in wall range. You can optionally add cellar dimensions for a capacity check. Opening compatibility is one part of the picture. Drainage and a dedicated 115V circuit are still required.

Will you tell me the unit will drop in?

No. The check reports whether the opening is within 1/8 in of the standard cutout, larger, or smaller. Site-specific factors such as drywall depth, framing, and conduit still have to be reviewed from photos before a unit ships.

I have a KoolR Nuvo. Can I use this?

No. The Nuvo is a cabinet unit. This check is for an existing through-the-wall opening. Wine-R is not affiliated with the maker of the KoolR Nuvo.

What photos do you need?

Three photos: the cellar-side face of the existing unit, the warm-side vent, and the electrical outlet. Pre-validation confirms unit fit against the measurements you declare. There is no obligation and no payment at the review stage.

Is Wine-R affiliated with KoolR?

No. KoolR, KoolR Magnum, KoolR Plus, Koolspace, and KoolR Nuvo are trademarks of their respective owners, referenced for identification and compatibility purposes only.

What happens after I send the photos?

Wine-R reviews the measurements and photos against the WR2500 opening. We email you with what we can confirm. There is no charge and no obligation at this stage. An opening match is not an approved order. Capacity, a condensate drain, and a dedicated 115V circuit still have to be right.

About this information

This content is general information for owners evaluating wine cellar cooling options. It is not a diagnosis of any specific unit and not a recommendation to repair or replace any product. Wine-R is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by any other manufacturer referenced on this page. All third-party product names and trademarks are the property of their respective owners and are used for identification and compatibility reference only. Third-party specifications come from publicly available manufacturer information and may change without notice. Compatibility with an existing opening does not by itself confirm suitability: cooling capacity must be validated against the cellar's size and construction, and the WR2500 requires a condensate drain line and a dedicated 115V/60Hz/15A circuit. Fit and sizing are confirmed through Wine-R's pre-validation process before any unit ships.

Liability and warranty considerations

The WR2500 is sold under Wine-R’s Terms of Sale and Limited Warranty. Wine-R’s warranty covers unit parts for two years from the original purchase date.

Warranty coverage is voided by, among other conditions:

  • Damage from improper installation, poor insulation, or oversized or unsealed rooms
  • Use of extension cords, switch-controlled outlets, or non-dedicated circuits
  • Use of single-pane or non-insulated glass in the cellar envelope
  • Installation through an exterior wall, into a sealed cavity, or into an unventilated cabinet
  • Service performed by anyone other than Wine-R or a Wine-R authorized technician
  • Damage from drainage installation, blockage, overflow, or any drainage failure

Pre-validation by Wine-R confirms unit fitment against declared measurements only. The owner or installer is responsible for envelope construction, wall structural assessment, electrical compliance, drainage routing, and ongoing operating conditions. Wine-R does not warrant against water damage, mold, finish degradation, or property loss caused by installation, drainage configuration, site conditions, or operating environment.
