What fits and what carries over

The WR2500 fits the standard KoolR Magnum wall cutout of 15 3/4 inches wide by 9 3/4 inches high, up to 7 inches wall thickness. It matches the through-the-wall format and runs on the same 120V/15A residential circuit. In nearly all installations, no cutting, framing, or electrical work is required.

The wall opening, framing, and outlet from your original KoolR install carry over to the WR2500. The most expensive part of the original installation stays paid for.

The WR2500 covers cellars up to 700 cubic feet with glass walls and up to 900 cubic feet in fully enclosed cellars. With R-20 minimum insulation, a typical Magnum installation fits within range. When a KoolR Magnum reaches end of service life

Through-the-wall cooling units are finite-life appliances. The compressor wears out first. On residential cellar units, the compressor typically begins to show trouble between year 8 and year 12. The signs are familiar: longer cycle times, temperature creeping above setpoint on hot days, more noise than the unit used to make, and eventually a hard failure.

Units installed during the 2010s are reaching that window now. When yours reaches that point, the practical question is what goes in its place. Owners face a binary choice: cut a new wall opening to fit a different unit, or find a drop-in replacement that fits the existing opening.

The WR2500 fits that second path. Its through-the-wall footprint matches one of the established residential cellar formats, which means an in-kind replacement preserves the most expensive part of the original install (the wall opening, framing, and electrical) for the customer.

What stays the same

The wall opening from your KoolR Magnum works for the WR2500. The width, height, and wall thickness range match. The framing around the opening, the drywall finish, and the trim do not need to change.

Electrical does not change. The WR2500 runs on a 120V/60Hz/15A circuit, the same as the KoolR. If your existing outlet is on a dedicated circuit (which it should be), it stays. If it shares a circuit with other loads, the replacement is a good moment to ask an electrician about adding a dedicated circuit for the cooling unit.

The warm-side venting requirement stays. Through-the-wall units exhaust heat into the warm side of the wall (utility room, garage, mechanical closet) with adequate airflow. If your KoolR Magnum was venting properly, the WR2500 will too.

What changes

The fascia design is different. The WR2500 front face does not match the KoolR Magnum. If you built custom trim or a surround around the KoolR fascia, that trim probably will not align with the WR2500. Most installations are straightforward to retrim, or to leave with the manufacturer fascia.

The warranty and support relationship is different. The WR2500 ships with a 2-year limited parts warranty supported directly by the Wine-R North American service team. There is no dealer in between. When you call or email about a unit, you reach the people who built it. Replacement parts are stocked in North America and ship under the warranty terms when applicable.

The ordering process is different. Wine-R sells direct to consumers in the US through a Stripe checkout with sales tax calculated automatically per state. Oversizing risk: oversizing a unit is sometimes assumed to be safer than undersizing, but it is in fact the same common cause of premature compressor failure in residential cellars.
